Poppy Project

Hi all, I have been busy with the new year and looking at some new projects.  I am really enjoying mixed media at the moment and the photo below shows a work in progress for a new poppy plaque which will be in shades of teal / duck egg when finished...thank for you looking and crafty hugs to all. x

Mixed Media Project

Well, I have given it a go, what, you may ask...mixed media is the response! :)

My first mixed media project is complete and is now available for sale via Ebay.

This is a purple MDF key rack for you.  It comes complete with hanging twine and is a one off! 

It started out life as a printed item which I did not like.  So....I covered with a couple of layers of gesso to give it a fresh base to work on.

I then added a base purple floral paper, using some Indigoblu 'Slap it On'.  I sanded around the edges to merge the paper into the MDF to ensure it did not lift.

I then started to add some detail in by painting over the floral design (I used Pebeo Acrylic Pearl Paint), stamping some flourishes (using the Pebeo paint and also Distress Inks).

To add further detail I then added some texture using a coarse texture paste and stencils.  I also then added in some Cosmic Shimmer Texture Paste in Frosty Heather - both the pearl and the glitter! 

I then looked at adding various embellishments.  I chose a variety of fabric flowers, metal keys and chipboard flourishes.  All items were covered with a couple of layers of white gesso to allow paint to adhere.  I then used the Pebeo and Cosmic Shimmer paints to ensure all toned in. 

My first project complete....I have a couple of others planned now - will post some details as they progress....thank you for looking and I hope you like what I have created.

Encaustic Art - practice!

Hi, I think it has been about 3 and a half years since I picked up at iron...to paint with!! I had a little bit of a practice today and definitely need more practice but thought I would post some of the steps that I took to achieve this one:

I used an A6 coated card and used a mixture of white, blue and a little purple / lilac for the sky.  It took a couple of passes over the card to try and get an effect I was happy with.

Then I looked for a mountain effect.  This time I loaded the iron with a white, touch of grey and some purple.  Hoping to give a snowy, heather effect (from a distance!).  I then added a little green, red and purple across the card to further the landscape towards the front. 

I then added in the very front of the image, using the side of the iron to attempt some texture / foliage effects.  

I then added in some hint of floral undergrowth and some reeds.  And of course, the encaustic birds to complete the image:

I do love the colours in this one (well, its purple of course!) Still more practice I think...hope you enjoyed looking. Thank you ! x
